Program
City Seminary of New York does not offer a degree program. However City Seminary of New York cooperates with Westminster Theological Seminary, which offers a Masters of Arts Degree (M.A.) in Urban Mission. Dr. Manuel Ortiz and Dr. Susan Baker direct the Urban Mission program of Westminster Theological Seminary. Half the courses are held on the Philadelphia campus and the other half in New York City. The Masters of Arts in Urban Mission is designed to be taken on a part-time basis and can be completed in three to four years by taking one course at a time along with a series of intensives.
Core courses in the Westminster Theological Seminary degree program include:
- Biblical Interpretation
- Biblical Theology
- Old Testament for Ministry
- New Testament for Ministry
- Doctrine of the Church
- Leadership and Mentoring
- World Christianity
- Mission to the City
- Theology of Mission
- Formation for Ministry
- Mission Seminar
The goal is to prepare the student for ministry in New York and in cities around the world. Using the resources of the city, a program of study has been developed which seeks to integrate traditional features of Westminster's academic curriculum with involvement in, and reflection on, urban community and church life.
Learning cohorts are a significant feature of the Master of Arts program. Areas of emphasis within the program include community development, faith in the work place, new church development, applied research, and preaching.
