Vision

Pray to the Lord for [the city], because if it prospers, you too will prosper (Jeremiah 29:7).

This is the biblical writers’ essential call to God’s people for urban prayer – to pray for the peace or shalom of the city (Robert Linthicum, City of God, City of Satan).

To bring together a community of believers who engage in intentional prayer for the shalom of our city, we are hosting the first series of pray and break bread. new york city. In seven neighborhoods this year, we will come together to read and meditate on Scripture, pray and walk the streets of our city, and then join together in a community meal to reflect on our experience, celebrate what God is already doing, and look forward to what He will do to restore and bring peace to the city.

Over the course of the year, we will travel to each of the five boroughs of New York City.  These events are open to anyone interested in praying for New York City and enjoying the good food we are fortunate to have here.

Conversion Part 2 (Andrew Walls)
This seminar on the topic of conversion continues our extraordinary opportunity to study with Andrew Walls, one of the most distinguished Christian scholars of our time. For Walls, converts and proselytes are two different things. The converted lifestyle turns all of life toward Christ, manifesting Christ in new ways as Christ is received by faith in new cultures. The proselyte model passes Christian faith through the requirements of another culture. Obviously, this raises many questions for mission and theology that we will spend the day exploring. Registration closed.

One Step Closer: U2 (Chris Scharen)
U2 is widely considered the most significant band in the world today. U2 is also recognized for their open Christian commitment. To understand the Christian vision of U2's music, Chris Scharen, Director of the Faith as a Way of Life program at Yale Divinity School, believes it is essential to appreciate their use of Scripture. In One Step Closer (Brazos, 2006), Scharen provides not only an essential guide to U2's vision, but also a profound introduction to the Christian faith. In our seminar with Scharen, we will meet a wonderful teacher, serious Christian, and great friend of City Seminary. Registration limited. For more information, contact mark@cityseminaryny.org.
