This course provides an understanding of the history and dynamics of New York City. The course also engages the work of historians such as Kenneth Jackson, urban theorists such as Saskia Sassen, sociologists like Abdoulmaliq Simone, and mission theologians such as Harvie Conn and Manuel Ortiz.

A Panel Session facilitated by CSNY faculty
From new manufacturing jobs in Queens to Wall Street traders to parents, this course explores the nature of vocation, examines the life of faith in work, and considers questions of calling and work in the city as global context. Themes of the Spirit, new creation, and work as calling in all spheres of life are central dimensions of this core course.
We will be meeting downtown near City Hall at 6:00pm for conversation and reflection on the topic, and then moving together as a group to the Lower East Side for dinner and additional interaction.
