Andrew Walls Gallery

The Andrew Walls Gallery, located at City Seminary of New York, will be opening in November 2007.  We are honored to dedicate this space to Dr. Andrew Walls who is not only the founder of the Centre for the Study of Christianity in the non-Western World (Edinburgh, Scotland) and a world-renowned scholar in world Christianity, but also a personal inspiration to the City Seminary of New York community.  In his ‘previous life’, Dr. Walls was actively involved in the arts in Scotland, chairing numerous museum and gallery boards.

Seeking the Peace of the City Together
November 10, 2007 – February 29, 2008

The Ephesian metaphors of the temple and of the body show each of the culture-specific segments as necessary to the body but as incomplete in itself.  Only in Christ does completion, fullness, dwell. And Christ's completion, as we have seen, comes from all humanity, from the translation of life of Jesus in the lifeways of all the world's cultures and subcultures through history.  None of us can reach Christ's completeness on our own.  We need each other's vision to correct, enlarge, and focus our own: only together are we complete in Christ.

The Cross-Cultural Process in Christian History

What does it look like to seek God’s peace in the city?

This exhibit brings together stories of “urban pilgrims” working for the peace of their cities.

In February 2007, City Seminary students traveled to Dakar, Senegal, Cape Town and Johannesburg, South Africa.  They studied the historical and contemporary contexts, visited churches and ministries, and listened to the stories of those working ‘on the ground’ to bring wholeness to their urban communities.

Wherever we are, we are able to see more clearly and creatively what God is doing through lives lived faithfully by making connections between the church and the city across the world.
